Yellow Flag Diary

Yellow Flag Diary September - December 2017

sep dec 2017

The Yellow Flag committee was formed with volunteers from across the fifth classes. We were overwhelmed by the number of enthusiastic pupils who wanted to join, however, we had to choose only twelve. The specific roles have been allocated to the members.

Throughout the year we plan to meet once a month during our lunch break. The themes/ideas and plan of action will be steered by the pupils themselves. Later we will look forward to working with the broader committee made up of parents, people in our community and staff.

We designed our school YF poster and have displayed these throughout the school.

‘If not us then who?’
‘If not now then when?’

We hope the theme will inspire each one of us to make changes for the better.

  • Yellow Flag notice boards are continuing to display information about where we come from and our language of the month.
  • Flag displays representing places where we and our families come/came from are on display inside/outside classrooms.
  • The Diversity code is on display across the school. ‘All different, All equal.’
  • Wear Red Day was held on the 25th of November. The whole school community embraced the concept of saying no to racism by wearing red on the day. Assemblies were held and Mr D’arcy spoke to children about diversity, inclusion, equality, racism, bullying and respect.
  • The UN Convention on The Rights of the Child was discussed. Senior classes have explored these rights in more detail and each one of their classroom doors now displays one of the rights.
  • Project work on rights and equality.
  • Inspiring Women Past and Present.
  • History/Geography Projects on a number of countries.
  • An array of art displays representing our diversity-portraits/personal profiles/words of inspiration.
  • Festivals, Fancy Dress(Halloween), Carol singing, and Nativity Plays demonstrated how well the children across classes work together.
  • Display of Christmas greetings in the languages we speak.
  • The KASI group have continued in their amazing work running the school canteen. The whole team make an amazing contribution to enriching all our lives with their warmth, enthusiasm and amazing cooking.
  • The KASI building project in The Community Garden adjoining the school has finished. We look forward to supporting many of the new initiatives that will be held in the new log cabin/garden.
  • We are proud to have helped in a review of resources/materials/ and best practices of the YF programme.
